Farmers farm practises at fault.

The Waitara River ( Taranaki) having the worst quality of 35 major New Zealand rivers. It's time the Government Regional Councils and District Councils got serious about our environment. And besides sorting out the Waitara sewerage to be piped through to New Plymouth sewage treatment plant. They should strongly encouraging Taranaki Dairy Farmers to be more organic and use organic certified natural feritilisers rather the commonly used chemical feritlisers. A big part of the pollution to all rivers and streams in this area is from diary farm run off, fertilisers and from the milking shed.. Nitrate leaching from Dairy Farms being the biggest polluter. Organic dairy farms curate natural living humus and reduced Nitrate leaching by 58 percent. This combined with the Taranaki Regional Councils riparian planting and good farm management would dramatically reduce farm leaching, and clean up our regions rivers lakes and waterways.

  1. Environmental effects of the use of organic and non-organic produce greatly differs, organic farming is environmental friendly and has no or only minimal effect to the outside world whereas non-organic farming has adverse effects to other plants, animals, land, air, water and humans as well.
